Never repeats
No loop point to fall out of
Because the mix is generated while it plays, there is no seam waiting to arrive. A session can run for eight hours without repeating itself once.

Rest
Generated. Live. Offline.
Flow is Sonen's focus mode: steady, deliberately uneventful sound to work or study under — generated as it plays, so there is no loop to start noticing.
Plays instantly in your browser. Free to start, no sign-up needed. Headphones recommended. Press Space to play or pause, anywhere on the page.
Wind down, and stay down. For the evening, and the hours through the night.
Brown-noise swell beneath a low drone, carrying a 2.5 Hz delta beat.
That's twenty minutes.
Members keep going — through the night, through a run, through an afternoon.
Rather than stopping dead, the last minutes thin out and dim until there is nothing left to stop. You should not be able to name the moment it ended. It plays the mode you have chosen, then settles into Rest for the last few minutes.
Keep the screen on. A phone that locks itself stops the sound until you come back to it.

Playing.
A sunrise made of sound. The mix moves from the far end of the night to full morning — nothing switches on, everything eases.

Move across the pad to change the energy and feel of the soundscape. It applies as you move.
Breath — off
Turn the dial to set a rate. The picture opens and settles with it — nothing to count, nothing to read.
Focus sounds
A recording loops, and sooner or later you hear the seam. Sonen has no recordings: every layer of Flow is built live on your device, so it can run all afternoon without repeating once.
Deep Work is the most featureless thing here, and that is the point of it. Grey Rain is even, unremarkable rain. Reading Room is a quiet room with people in it — company without conversation. Engine Room is a low machined hum at a fixed pitch. When you want a pulse rather than a hush, Move has a beat to work to.
Every mode is free to play, in sessions of twenty minutes. Membership removes the limit.
No. Sonen is voiced for a phone or laptop speaker by default. Headphones bring out the low end and let the beat be binaural.
Flow carries a 14 Hz beta beat: binaural on headphones, isochronic on a speaker. We describe what it is, not what it does to you.
Yes. Once Sonen has loaded, it plays with no connection at all — the sound is made on your device.

How it works
Most calm apps hand you a folder of audio files and set them looping. Sonen has no files. Every layer you hear — the noise beds, the drifting filters, the tones that surface and fade, even the reverb around them — is built in your browser as it plays.
Never repeats
Because the mix is generated while it plays, there is no seam waiting to arrive. A session can run for eight hours without repeating itself once.
Always moving
Filters drift on their own slow cycles, tones appear and dissolve at intervals nothing decided in advance. Close, then far. Bright, then soft.
Starts with you
You are never asked to choose a track. You say how you feel, and the sound arrives already shaped for it — then moves with you when that changes.
Under most of what you hear sits a bed of noise. Noise is named by colour for how its energy is spread from low to high, the way light is — and each mode is built on its own mix of them.
Deep and soft, with most of its weight low down, like surf heard from a distance or wind from indoors.
Under Rest, Renew, Balance, Melodic, Move and Liminal
Even from top to bottom, like steady rain on a roof.
Through Rest, Renew, Flow, Balance, Melodic, Move and Liminal
Every frequency at once, bright and hissing, like a radio between stations.
In Renew and Liminal
Tilted towards the top, like fine spray or a shower in the next room.
In Flow
Higher again, a thin, airy shimmer.
Over Balance
Binaural beats
Two tones, one in each ear, a few hertz apart. Your ears hear two steady notes; you hear a slow beat at the difference between them. Most binaural beats are recordings. In Sonen the two tones are generated as you listen, at exact frequencies, under the rest of the sound — so the beat is there all the time, and never announces itself.
Rest · 2.5 Hz · Delta
The slowest beat, under brown noise and a low drone.
Renew · 10 Hz · Alpha
Under a warming pad and scattered rain.
Flow · 14 Hz · Beta
Under steady filtered noise, with almost no melody to follow.
Balance · 6 Hz · Theta
Under a mix that rises and falls at 5.5 breaths a minute.
Melodic · 12 Hz · Alpha
Quietly, beneath the chords and the melody.
Move · 16 Hz · Beta
Quietly, beneath the drums and the bass.
Headphones, because each ear has to hear only its own tone. The bands are the names these rates are usually given; we tell you the number and the band, and leave what you make of it to you. More on how Sonen makes them.
states
states holding distinct soundscapes — every one of them free. Try them above: the whole mix migrates rather than stopping and restarting.
Rest ·
Brown noise swelling under a low drone, with a 2.5 Hz delta beat between the ears. Built for the hour before sleep, and the hours through it.
Renew ·
A warming pad and scattered rain over brown and white noise, with a 10 Hz alpha beat. For mornings that shouldn't arrive all at once.
Flow ·
Steady pink and blue noise with almost no melody to follow, tracking a 14 Hz beta beat. Deliberately uneventful, so your attention stays where you put it.
Balance ·
Brown, pink and a thread of violet noise, the whole mix rising and falling at 5.5 breaths a minute — the rate used in coherent breathing — over a 6 Hz theta beat. Something steady to settle against.
Melodic ·
Instrumental melody, written as it plays: chords that go somewhere and a line over the top, with a 12 Hz alpha beat beneath. No words, and nothing on a loop.
Move ·
The one place Sonen has a pulse. Synthwave, outrun, deep house, breaks — drums, bass and arpeggios synthesised on a beat grid, with the pattern regenerated every bar so it still never loops.
